The part-time Custodian is responsible for maintaining the overall cleanliness of the facility and surrounding grounds and set-up for activities. The part-time Cus! todian is directly responsible to the assigned supervisor but must be able to judge work and make changes as needed on a daily basis without the supervisor’s presence. The employee is also under the administrative supervision of the Director of Parks and Recreation. All employees are responsible to the City Manager. This position is classified as Non-Exempt for the purposes of the Fair Labor Standards Act, and as having a reasonably foreseeable occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens. As Safety Sensitive, the employee is subject to pre-employment, reasonable suspicion, post-accident (incident), random, promotion and transfer, return-to-duty and follow-up drug and alcohol testing. Sweeps, mops and waxes floors and stairwells on a routine basis.

Vacuums and cleans carpets.

Cleans windows and changes light bulbs as needed which may involve climbing up and down a ladder.

Dusts and/or polishes furniture, window ledges, banisters, ceilings, radiators, bleachers, light fixtures, etc.

Maintains and cleans restrooms, drinking fountains, and kitchens in a sanitary manner.

Sets up and takes down equipment for meetings and other activities.

Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older.

Education equivalent to graduation from an accredited high school or GED equivalent required.

Must have legal authorization to work in the United States of America.

Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screen.

Literacy in English with the ability to understand, communicate to others, and carry out oral and written instructions and follow posted schedules.

CUSTODIANS

A Custodian will apply for employment at one of the four facilities wit! h the City of Murfreesboro. These facilities include: 1) St. Clair Stre! et Senior Center, 2) Murfreesboro Police Department, 3) General and Administrative Department, or 4) Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation Department. The Custodian is responsible for maintaining the overall cleanliness of the facility they are working for and the grounds surrounding the facility. The Custodians are also responsible for the set-up of activities at their designated facility.

Depending on the job duties assigned for the day, the employees may be performing lifting and pulling on a more frequent or less frequent basis. However, job duties may change throughout the week depending on the needs of the individual department for the Custodian.

EQUIPMENT/JOB LOCATION

:

The part-time Custodian uses cleaning equipment including, but not limited to, mops, brooms, buffing machines, vacuum cleaners, and various other kinds of janitorial equipment.
The employee uses a ladder and hand tools including, but not limited to, hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, small drills, pliers, paint brushes, etc.

The employee works both inside the facility and outdoors on the grounds. Some work will be performed in inclement weather.

The employee is exposed to dirt, dust, grease, loud noises, cleaning chemicals, foul odors, bodily fluids and bloodborne pathogens.

All City facilities and vehicles are tobacco free.
