Chief Legal Counsel

The Chief Legal Counsel (CLC) will be a member of the executive management team and will be responsible for directing the activities of the legal department. The CLC will also supervise staff and contract attorneys. Additional responsibilities include developing and drafting legal opinions and legal documents, negotiating terms, and reviewing legal documents presented to the agency and agency staff by other agencies, groups, or governmental entities. Other responsibilities include representing the agency in insurance claims, including litigation, when appropriate, advising on issues related to employee relations and employment law, assisting HR manager with regulatory concerns, and internal investigations. The CLC serves as the Title VI coordinator, and performs other related duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Active license to practice law in Tennessee is required. Knowledge of federal, state, municipal, and county governmental administration and organization is required. Knowledge of employment law, planning law, and health law is preferred.
