Vanderbilt University is seeking an Associate General Counsel experienced in health law transactions, health law regulatory matters, and general corporate issues.
The Associate General Counsel will provide legal support on provider affiliations, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, innovative health care delivery models and transactions, fraud and abuse issues, Medicare reimbursement issues, regulatory enforcement and compliance, general corporate maintenance and compliance issues, and hospital and general healthcare operations.
The candidate must possess at least eight years of experience in the fields of healthcare regulatory matters and healthcare transactions, with the ideal candidate possessing in excess of ten years experience. An understanding of the complexities of an academic medical center and the issues that exist in schools of medicine, nurs! ing, and university or teaching hospitals is a plus.
! The Associate General Counsel will be an active participant with key leaders in advising on strategic directions, as well as individual activities.
We seek a creative problem-solver who will provide excellent legal advice in a highly ethical manner, and who will contribute to the positive working environment within the Office of General Counsel.
General Responsibilities:
- Assist in drafting and reviewing contracts and other legal documents for compliance with state and federal laws as well as University policies, including as a liaison working directly with various contracting offices across the University.
- Assist in drafting documents and advising the Medical Center on complex transactions.
- Confer with Vanderbilt employees on matters involving legal interpretation and decisions related to operations and policy questions; engage in training activities, including corporate board training, and fraud and abuse education.
- Engage and manage outside counsel to represent Vanderbilt University.
- Staff key work groups and committees in areas of practice as assigned, including attendance at board meetings and other related activities, as a legal advisor.
- Provide guidance and assistance to other colleagues in the Office of General Counsel in a highly collaborative fashion.
- JD degree. Employment contingent upon State of Tennessee licensure or registration and receipt of In-House Counsel Practice Certificate.[1] The successful candidate must also apply for and become licensed in the State of Tennessee within 12 months of employment.
- Must have at least eight years of experience as an attorney in relevant legal areas, with a preference for more than ten years of experience.
