In compliance with applicable State regulatory authorities, COVID-19 vaccination is mandatory for all MSK staff. Staff are considered fully vaccinated upon completion of a primary vaccination series for COVID-19 (i.e., one dose of a single dose vaccine or a final dose of a multi-dose vaccine series). Exceptions from the COVID-19 vaccine requirement are permitted for those who request and receive an approved medical or fully remote exemption. Requests for medical exemption can take up to two weeks to review. Vaccination or an approved medical exemption is required to start work.

Note: Individuals are eligible to receive a COVID-19 booster two months after completion of a primary vaccination series for COVID-19. Because vaccine-induced immunity can wane over time, MSK continues to strongly urge all staff to get a COVID-19 booster as soon as they become eligible to maintain their protective immunity for a longer period.

Job Description:

Are you eager to drive positive impact and build a better, stronger, and more durable MSK for our patients, employees, and communities? We are excited to recruit a Writer/Editor to join the Patient Communication & Engagement team. We are looking for someone who is passionate about supporting patient communication needs at one of the nation’s leading cancer centers.

You are:

• Exceptionally skilled in writing and copy editing.
• Effective at ensuring that new materials align with stakeholders’ goals and expectations.
• Capable of communicating clearly and concisely with collaborators so that they understand your edits and the rationale behind them.
• Flexible in your editing approach to facilitate compromises.
• Eager to apply insights from past efforts to new situations.

You will:

• Write materials for a lay audience of patients and caregivers. Materials include (but are not limited to): patient portal messages and announcements; emails; printed letters; text messages; brochures; signage; and content for MSK.org.
• Edit materials for audiences with varying degrees of health literacy (typically grade 6 to 8 according to the SMOG Index) by improving clarity, format, and flow, while adhering to MSK house style, AP style, and the Merriam-Webster dictionary for spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
• Oversee projects from start to finish, as needed, including gaining an understanding of the scope of work, establishing an appropriate timeline, working across teams within Marketing & Communication and across MSK, and delivering and measuring results.
• Assist in making decisions about additions and changes to the Patient Communication & Engagement style guide.

You have:

• 4 to 7 years of experience writing/editing about health, science, or related field for a lay audience.
• The ability to present complex subject matter in clear and understandable terms.
• A collaborative spirit and solution-oriented approach.
• Familiarity with search engine optimization (SEO) tools and best practices.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; experience with HTML, Figma, Miro, and/or Airtable is a plus.
