Position Overview

The Health Information Administrator at Menard Correctional Center serves as a full line supervisor in the Medical Records Department and is responsible for providing guidance and training to assigned staff, establishing annual goals and objectives, and coordinating the Health Care Unit’s Quality Improvement Program. Menard Correctional Center is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to serve in the role. We encourage all qualified applicants to apply.

Job Responsibilities

1. Serves as a full line supervisor.

2. Develops, implements, and monitors compliance to policies and procedures.

3. Coordinates the Health Care Unit’s Quality Improvement Program, serving as liaison with the Office of Health Service and governing body.

4. Provides in-service training and development.

5. Holds health information medical record call line for individuals in custody requesting copies and delivery of services.

6. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to four (4) years of college and certification by the American Health Information Management Association as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA). Plus, one (1) years of professional experience in a health information records facility.

OR

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to four (4) years of high school, completion of an approved medical records training program, plus certification by the American Health Information Management Association as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT). Plus, five (5) years of progressively responsible experience as an RHIT in management of a medical records program.

Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)

1. Prefers at least three (3) years of experience working in a health information records facility.

2. Prefers at least three (3) years of experience handling confidential and sensitive information.

3. Prefers at least three (3) years of experience multitasking in a fast-paced office environment.

4. Prefers at least three (3) years of experience supervising employees.

5. Prefers at least three (3) years of experience establishing annual goals and objectives.

6. Prefers at least three (3) years of experience preparing correspondence and presentations to executive staff.

7. Prefers at least three (3) years of experience gathering data and preparing reports.

8. Prefers at least three (3) years of experience working with Microsoft Office suite or similar programs.

9. Prefers at least three (3) years of experience working in a customer service setting responding to inquiries

Conditions of Employment

1. Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.

2. Requires ability to pass a drug screen. On January 1, 2020, the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act made it legal for residents over the age of 21 to produce, consume and sell cannabis in Illinois. Please note that although the law has changed, the Department will continue to enforce the Department’s zero tolerance Drug Testing policy. The use of unauthorized drugs, including cannabis, by an employee, regardless of the position held is prohibited.
