General Counsel is responsible for leading corporate strategic and tactical legal initiatives. General Counsel will provide senior management with effective adv! ice on company strategies and their implementation, manage the legal function, and obtain and oversee the work of outside counsel. General Counsel will be directly involved in complex business transactions in negotiating critical contracts.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY - General Counsel:
Serve as key lawyer/legal advisor on all major business transactions, including acquisitions, divestitures and joint ventures.
Judge the merits of major court cases filed against or on behalf of the company, work with the appropriate executive(s) to define a strategic defense and approve settlements of disputes where warranted.
Participate in the definition and development of corporate policies, procedures and programs and provide continuing counsel and guidance on legal matters and on legal implications of all matters.
Assume ultimate responsibility for ensuring American Addiction Centers conducts its business in compliance with applicable laws and regulation! s. Anticipate and guard against legal risks facing the company! .
Partner with Human Resources, insurance carrier and outside counsel on employee litigation.
Selection, retention, management and evaluation of all outside counsel.

Education - General Counsel:
Doctor of Jurisprudence degree required
Master of Business Administration degree preferred
Experience and Requirements - General Counsel:
Must have at least 8 years experience in corporate legal environment.
Knowledge of federal, state and local laws.
Healthcare Experience preferred
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to analyze case law and provide recommendations.
Requires membership in the State Bar as an attorney qualified to practice law in this state.
Visibility requires maintaining a professional appearance and providing a positive company image to the public.
Excellent Management skills in a multi-location environment with an emphasis on people skills and a 'roll up your! sleeves' management style
Superior organization skills is a must.
