This position is responsible for editing and proofreading HR-oriented content and materials following the guidelines and styles set for those products. This position also acts as a contact person for BLR®â€"Business and Leg! al Resources with the law firm editors and shares pertinent information with in-house staff. Edit/proofread employment and miscellaneous subscriber law newsletters and related products Follow newsletter-specific instructions and edit/proofread newsletters according to company style guidelines Style text in Microsoft Word files for translation from Word to InDesign/InCopy Ensure newsletters are consistent in style and presentation; ensure articles are directed to their intended audience Select appropriate filler material when newsletter runs short Edit or create titles and subheads so they are concise and active and draw the reader into the article Add queries for attorney editors to answer on proof, as needed Categorize articles for indexing Proofreadâ€"on paper or with InCopyâ€"laid-out newsletters for clarity and compare layout, masthead, and disclaimer box information against previous issues for consistency Check corrected proofs, and create PDFs when newsletter is ready! for review by attorney editors Read through attorney correcti! ons to make sure revisions can be clearly understood by typesetters and proofreaders Edit and post articles on website using Druple
Bachelors degree in journalism or related subject Two years of editorial, proofreading, or journalism experience preferred Previous legal experience or familiarity with legal issues is a plus Familiarity with Drupal, InCopy, and WordPress preferred Ability to clearly articulate ideas and put them in writing Familiarity with proofreading marks and Chicago Manual of Style Attention to detail, knowledge of proper grammar, sentence structure and spelling Ability to prioritize, multi-task, remain organized and meet tight deadlines
