Major Duties/Responsibilities: As the Office of General Counsels subject matter exper! t on litigation, the incumbent must manage all litigation led by outside counsel to ensure cost-effective superior representation. The incumbent is responsible for occasionally handling general administrative claims requiring appearances in court and administrative forums, drafting and filing motions and other legal pleadings and documents, and negotiating with opposing parties. The incumbent is responsible for providing legal advice and support to guide client decisions to avoid litigation, claims and mitigate risk. Most of this preventative legal advice relates to personnel matters and, for that reason, this individual must be knowledgeable in all areas of employment law, including the Departments of Energy and Labor whistleblower regulations.

While this role does not function as an employment attorney, the position works closely with the in-house employment attorneys and utilizes litigation expertise to guide decisions. The incumbent handles all litigation holds! that may come from the Department of Justice through the Depa! rtment of Energy, as well as all subpoenas and requests for documents. All in-house attorneys must be professionally agile and be able to learn new practice areas as the needs of the Office of General Counsel evolve; this provides staff an opportunity to experience a broad range of matters and gain professional expansion and growth. The selected individual must provide clear, concise and useful legal advice; research and analyze complex legal issues, solve legal problems creatively and independently, align with business objectives while complying with established legal frameworks, adapt to a rapidly changing market, and skillfully negotiate complex agreements.

The Office of General Counsel has responsibility for the companys Ethics program which requires members to maintain a strong commitment to the implementation and perpetuation of the Code of Business Ethics. This position will interact with upper management as well as local DOE officials and reports directly t! o the General Counsel. Qualifications Required: J.D. degree from an ABA accredited law school with a minimum of four years of relevant work experience, which demonstrates proven litigation skills and expertise as well as working knowledge of employment lawincluding related statutes, regulations, and case law.

Licensed and authorized to practice as an attorney within the United States, with the ability to gain admission to practice as an attorney in Tennessee. Active member in good standing of the bar of a state within the United States. Strong academic and employment credentials with ability to provide professional references. Exceptional analytical and problem solving skills.

Highly developed and excellent writing skills with the ability to provide writing samples including legal pleadings such as summary judgment motions and responses, and/or appellate briefs. Outstanding communications skills including strong counseling and negotiating skills, interpers! onal abilities, and presentation skills. Ability to operate successfull! y in a culture that values consultation and collaboration. Committed to gaining the confidence of diverse clients within the company as well as colleagues in the Legal Office.

Strong computer skills to accomplish document drafting, use of SharePoint, mastery of Power Point.Preferred qualifications: An understanding of the Department of Energy as well as its management and operating contractor system is desired.
