R&D Engineer

Fontaine Spray Suppression Company (FSS), a member of The Marmon Group, a Berkshire Hathaway Company, is currently recruiting for a R&D Engineer, located in Springfield, TN (Nashville). FSS is the leading supplier of spray suppression products to the North American heavy duty truck industry. This person will be responsible for designing and developing innovative spray suppression solutions.
Primary Responsibilities: Apply knowledge of general engineering principles, materials, DFMA and reliability to design and develop innovative spray control solutions.
Responsible for concept development, CAD model generation using SolidWork! s®, leading and participating in design reviews, product test! ing, failure analysis and transition of the design to manufacturing.
Effectively translate customer and marketing input to define technical design requirements.
Use analytical tools to conduct detailed technical analysis of new product ideas, and conduct design verification testing of functional prototypes to verify performance to specifications.
Function as a technical lead on design programs to generate and monitor product development schedules, define product specifications and design to cost goals, provide periodic program updates and coordinate design review meetings.
Prepare and present product design presentations to FSS staff and customers. This position will be responsible for preparing documentation for test reports, analysis reports and technical papers as appropriate.
Provide support to patent attorneys for patent filing.
Assists a cross-functional team in transferring new products into production.
Position Requirements: T! his position requires a BS in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering and a minimum of 5+ years of innovative product design-related experience. An advanced degree and/or coursework toward an advanced degree are a plus.
Background in product management from conception, prototype development, laboratory testing through to commercialization desired.
Must be proficient in SolidWorks®, DOE, DFMA and a verifiable history of FEA capability a must.
Must be able to interpret and communicate effectively with patent attorneys. Previous experience in developing patented products a plus.
Must have the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, scientific journals, technical procedures and government specifications.
Proficient with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel and Power Point) required.
Requires U.S. Citizenship, U.S. Permanent Residency, or other status as a U.S. Person.
