Reporting to a
Claims Supervisor, the Extended Claims Handler III will be primarily
responsible for reviewing, evaluating, investigating and settling claims
over the phone and through written correspondence. The primary
responsibility of this level of claims adjuster will be to manage files
in litigation. Will also be expected to handle complex coverage and
injury claims. Essential job responsibilities for this position will
include:
Investigating and evaluating policy coverage,
liability a! nd damages in a timely manner following a set of general
claim and statutory guidelines.
Assists internal and external
customers with problems or questions regarding claims by phone or
through written correspondence while providing a high level of customer
service.
Establish and maintain appropriate reserves for all potential exposures.
Investigate and evaluate claims using an ultimate lowest cost strategy.
Establish and maintain appropriate diary of open claims following company guidelines.
Conduct
thorough investigations which can include obtaining necessary documents
and forms from claimants/insureds; conduct recorded statements.
Attend mediations and trials when necessary.
Negotiate timely and appropriate settlements with claimants, insureds and attorneys; issue appropriate payments.
Process correspondence related to assigned claims.
Proficiently manage associated le! gal expenses.
Evaluate and settle bodily injury claims within ! designated authority.
Work with staff and outside defense counsel to bring litigated files to an appropriate resolution.
Prepare reports for management to correspond with guidelines regarding time demands and potential excess exposures.
Mentor and/or train less seasoned adjusters as appropriate.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Associateâs
Degree in a business-related field or equivalent experience is preferred. INS
or other insurance related courses preferred.
Minimum of five years casualty claims adjusting
experience, including bodily injury experience is required with at least one year experience handling litigated claims.
Non-standard auto claims adjusting experience is a plus.
Effective verbal and written communication, time
management, organization, negotiation and investigative skills are required.
Excellent customer serv! ice and phone skills.
Ability to perform basic math calculations
(addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) as well as the calculation
of averages and percentages.
Computer skills including proficiency with
Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Windows and Excel.
