The Nurse Supervisor supervises the daily operations of
the opiate treatment program’s medical department, and
provides nursing servic! es and patient care. In treatment
centers with laboratories, the Nurse Supervisor also
supervises the daily operation of the laboratory and the
medical assistant/phlebotomy team. The Nurse Supervisor
follows established program policies and procedures to
provide continuity of care, and adheres to and enforces
current nursing procedures, standards and practices.
These responsibilities include utilizing nursing skills
for planning, assessment, intervention, and evaluation
of patient needs. The Nurse Supervisor must also be able
to perform phlebotomy and laboratory procedures and
administer patient medication. The Nurse Supervisor will
perform duties within the scope of their license or
certification which are an addendum to this job
description.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for ensuring efficient operations of the
nursing department and laboratory

including, but not limited to the following:
  • Assess patients’ appropriateness for dosing
  • Ensure the maintenance of quality patient care
  • Administering of methadone as prescr! ibed by the
Medical Director
  • Confirm and sign any medical orders
  • Assist the Medical Director or Program Physician
with physical examinations and other procedures as
required
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate patient dosing
records, as well as, daily reconciliation and
accountability of medication inventory
  • Ensure medication count is cleared daily
  • Audit the medication rooms at multiple locations, if
applicable, to ensure the accountability of
medication records per state, federal, accreditation
and DEA standards
  • Ensure that monthly medication inventories and
reconciliations are being completed including the
DEA bi-annual inventory
  • Collect urine specimens following chain of custody
protocol
  • Responsible for maintenance of all medical supplies
as needed
  • Responsible for the! health and safety training of
all nursing and laboratory te! am members
  • Work with the nurses to coordinate the nursing
departments, at multiple locations, if applicable
  • Coordinate care with physicians, hospitals and other
community healthcare providers
  • Meet BHG attendance standards and be present and
ready for work at the beginning of their established
work schedule
  • Report any work-related injury or illness, or
workplace hazards or security issues immediately to
Chief Operating Officer, Regional Director, or Human
Resources
  • Department as applicable and ensure documentation is
completed in a timely manner.
  • Develop work schedule for the Medical Department to
ensure adequate coverage
  • Responsible for managing time off requests, schedule
adherence, timekeeping, and timecard approval for
their department
Responsible for conducting internal treatment progr! am

review including, but not limited to the following:
  • Official DEA records (e.g., order forms, licenses,
manifests, & powers of attorney)
  • Dispensing logs & Medication Administration Records
  • Nursing and medical assistant team
  • Audit patient records for compliance, labs,
physical, PPD tests, medical orders, +UDS follow-up
consult documentation, etc.
  • Responsible for maintaining and helping with a chart
monitoring system to track physicals and lab work
  • Participate in interviewing prospective nurses and
medical assistants
  • Supervise the orientation and training of new nurses
and medical assistants
  • Provide written input into the performance
evaluations of all nurses and medical assistants
  • Responsible for providing recommendations regarding
hiring, transferring, promoting, demoti! ng and
terminating team members directly under his/her
supervis! ion
  • Facilitate training for the nursing and laboratory
team members
  • Attend conferences, community meetings and training
programs as needed/directed
  • Participate in staff meetings, clinical supervision,
treatment team meetings and in-service trainings as
required â€" with emphasis on taking an active
leadership role in treatment team discussions
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships within
and outside of the treatment program
Regulatory
  • Responsible for ensuring nursing and laboratory team
members comply with all federal, state and local
regulatory agency requirements.
  • Responsible for ensuring the nursing and laboratory
team members comply with all accrediting agency
requirements.
Compliance
  • Responsible for ensuring the nursing and laboratory
team members are trained and well-vers! ed in the
Company’s policy and procedures manual as it relates
to compliance
  • Responsible for monitoring compliance through
periodic and random audits
  • Responsible for ensuring the nursing and laboratory
team members are prepared for and meet the annual
accrediting requirements to include maintenance of
licensure and CPR certification, and continuing
education requirements
  • Responsible for ensuring that the nursing and
laboratory team members are prepared for federal,
DEA, state and accrediting agency inspections at all
times

Job Requirements:
The ideal candidate must be licensed as a LPN/LVN or RN
in the state of employment, be CPR certified and must
hold and maintain a valid driver’s license. Experience
and understanding of chemical addiction is preferable.

Minimum Requirements
The ideal candidate is a technically competent leader
with significant experience in the management of
substance abuse treatment services across economically
and culturally diverse communities. The Nurse Supervisor
must hold a valid nursing license, RN or LPN/LVN in the
state of employment and be CPR certified. The ideal
Nurse Supervisor ca! ndidate will have appropriate work
experience in the behavioral health field, with at least
five (5) years experience in substance abuse and one (1)
year of experience in administration. In addition to
meeting the qualifications, the ideal candidate will

embody the following characteristics:

  • Hold a basic understanding of alcohol/drug abuse and
