Manager, Legal Services - New Physicians

Management and provision of services related to Contracts and other legal needs for Li! fePoint affiliated Hospitals and its Corporate services, including Legal Department initiatives to deliver and improve those services.

Job Summary:
This position must be filled by an individual who possesses and consistently demonstrates the highest level of personal integrity and professional judgment, and who is able to work in a collaborative, collegial and respectful manner .

As a member of the Legal Department, this individual will possess superior written and verbal communication skills, acquire and maintain knowledge in substantive legal areas, and be able to work independently and collaboratively in support of the legal needs of LifePoint, its affiliated facilities and corporate entities (“LifePoint”) as defined more specifically in this job description.

The individual shall report directly to an Associate General Counsel and/or Vice President within the Legal Department. This individual shall serve ! as a team member/leader on legal department or corporate initi! atives, as assigned. The position is housed at the Hospital Support Center (HSC) in Brentwood, Tennessee.

Summary of Duties:
This position will provide services from LifePoint’s Legal Department to support affiliated Facilities and Corporate Departments on all matters related to employed and recruited physicians, including acquisitions of physician practices. In conjunction with assigned corporate lawyers, this position will provide legal support for an assigned territory of LifePoint’s subsidiaries, hospitals and corporate departments. This position focuses heavily on contract review, drafting and management of contract workflow and processes, all of which ensure the substance of agreements comply with applicable laws and contain terms to protect the Company. Primary emphasis will be on preparation and review of LifePoint Core Contracts, requiring corporate pre-approval. Integral to this position is participation in the! continuous improvement of contract processes, forms, and workflow in the delivery of legal services.

The duties of this position are necessary to ensure that the Company complies with all applicable laws, and include:

Communication and collaboration with Hospital’s senior management (CEO, CFO, CNO, COO, CMO and Department Heads) and corporate personnel in all departments;
Independently reviewing, analyzing and drafting contracts, bylaws and other legal documents, conducting legal research, and collaborating with lawyers;
Demonstration of strong customer service skills and an ability to triage and respond to Hospital legal requests in appropriate priority, and communicate plans for addressing Hospital needs to supervisor and lawyer assigned to the hospital;
Possession and demonstration of working knowledge and experience in the application of health care law to hospital contracting, particularly as to physician-hospital relatio! nships, in addition to a general knowledge of legal issues associated w! ith hospital operations, such as HIPAA, EMTALA, HCQIA;
Preparation and delivery of Educational Resources to guide Hospitals in contract review process and in compliance with policies/processes related to contracts (e.g., verbal presentations, written intranet educational FAQs, instructions, and presentations);
In conjunction with other members of the Legal Department, develop educational area on the Legal Department intranet webpage to provide information to Hospitals and LifePoint corporate personnel regarding contract procedures and associated forms, policies and necessary information.
Investigation of issues related to compliance with contract terms and participation in resolution;
Develop and implement a process to identify, monitor and manage that status of all projects assigned.
After training provided, demonstrate proficiency with use of contract management system.
Develop templates for frequently requested contract agreements and proposals. Management of the Company’s contracts and other legal matters will include ensuring that all documents are maintained electronically in an organized fashion, easily accessible by others who need the information.
Provide training to other members of team or Legal Department, as needed or requested
Participate or lead a team to accomplish assigned Legal Department or Company initiatives.

General Responsibilities as member of Legal Department:
This position requires extensive, self-initiated activity, thought and client contact and must be filled by one who has an ability to interact with and provide information to hospital and corporate personnel. The individual filling this position must have the ability to successfully handle a variety of legal projects. This position requires excellent interpersonal and writing skills, superior problem solving capabilities, and the ability to successfully design, implement, oversee and consis! tently improve critically important company-wide processes. He/she must! have the ability to consistently meet deadlines while handling multiple complex projects.

Participate in Legal Department and Corporate initiatives, as assigned (examples are review and restructuring of processes and programs as assigned and directed by the individual’s supervisor, and other activities to ensure compliance with any new laws/regulations).
Respond promptly, courteously and comprehensively to inquiries of Hospitals, Corporate Departments and personnel, outside vendors and counsel, and exercise ability to prioritize needs of these customers.
Work collaboratively with all Legal Department members, and utilize expertise of those members to accomplish your role.
Minimum Qualifications (Experience, Education and Special Certifications…)

Education - Bachelor's degree
Experience - 5-8 years experience in legal positions (working in co! njunction with lawyers) focused on contracting, such as paralegal
(Preferred qualifications–Program Management, HCCA Certification)

Demonstrate the highest level of personal integrity and professional judgment, and must be able to work in a collaborative, collegial and respectful manner.
Experience in contract review and drafting for health care clients
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Effective organizational skills, and ability to manage and track status of multiple projects
Ability to complete detail oriented projects and provide a comprehensive work product
Ability to work independently and be self sufficient
Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
Strong interpersonal skills, including ability to work in a team environment and to collaborate with personnel (Hospital Clients, Corporate Departments, Legal Department personnel), as well as work successfully with vendors, law firms and other external resourc! es.
Proficient with software to draft agreements or legal documents! , including Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat products. (Familiarity with contract management systems, preferred).

Work is performed in an office environment and involves frequent contact with staff and the public.
