Job Summary
Bowdoin College is located in Brunswick Maine with a student population of almost 2000. We make everything from scratch and are consistently rated in the top 10 for college dining! We have our own butcher shop, bakeshop, and organic garden that all supply food to our 2 dining halls and 3 retail locations.

The Dining Hall Cashier is responsible for the following:
  • Greeting dining service patrons pleasantly, verifying student and employee identification, and board availability for specific meals.
  • Verify meal counts.
  • Operating the computerized checking system that monitors board plans and employee debit plans and determining access eligibility to the dining halls. Troubleshooting and promptly reporting system problems.
  • Accurately handling credit card transactions based on price list.
  • Providing excellent customer service especially relating to customer queries regarding function locations, menu, campus directions and any other general informational questions.
  • Restocking checking station supplies including candies, deposit slips, charge forms, and other office supplies.
  • May be required to perform light cleaning duties, as needed.
  • Performs basic sanitation and food preparation duties in between meal periods. Sample tasks include wiping tables, bussing dishes, sweeping and mopping dining rooms, and basic food preparation.

Pay rate: $17.50/per hour

Education/Skills Requirements
Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong customer service orientation with positive, friendly, helpful attitude is a must!
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment, multi-task efficiently,
  • Ability to follow written and oral direction
  • Ability to perform simple mathematic equations
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Must demonstrate good personal hygiene practices.

Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents
Required:
  • No prior experience necessary. Willing to train the right candidate for the role!


Preferred:
  • Demonstrated reliability
  • Some related experiences.

Standard Work Days and Hours
  • Various shifts available in morning, afternoon, and evening with flexible hours, including weekends.
  • Willing to work with candidates on their availability.
  • This is a part-time, non-benefit eligible position working less than 20 hours/ week.
