TennCare compensation is equitable and will be based on education and experience for a qualified candidate in accordance with Department of Human Resources (DOHR) policy.

Who we are and what we do:

TennCare is Tennessee's managed care Medicaid program that provides health insurance coverage to certain groups of low-income individuals such as pregnant women, children, caretaker relatives of young children, older adults, and adults with physical disabilities. TennCare provides coverage for approximately 1.7 million Tennesseans and operates with an annual budget of approximately $14 billion. It is run by the Division of TennCare with oversight and some funding from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure member-focused materials consistently meets the quality and business expectations
  • Perform quality review of member materials in various test and production environments, and validate notice data and systems-related changes
  • Identify systems defects related to member-focused written communications
  • Test system changes and defect fixes related to member-focused material
  • Liaison with interagency divisions and technical support groups to ensure member materials meet the business need
  • Monitor team email box and respond appropriately to requests, including submission of translations requests
  • Adhere to team policies and best practices with positivity and vulnerability


Job Overview:

The Division of TennCare is seeking a Member Communications Specialist for the Compliance and Policy Group within Member Services. The Member Communications Specialist will be responsible for quality of member-focused written communications to ensure members and applicants receive easy to read, clear communications. The Member Communications Specialist will ensure communications meet system design expectations through quality control and systems testing. This position requires critical thinking and problem-solving skills, the ability to understand and clearly communicate complex policy and procedures, establish and maintain positive working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders, manage multiple projects, and adhere to deadlines.


Education and Experience:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelors Degree in a related field (preferred degree in business administration, management, public health or health policy)

OR

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate's degree in a related field (preferred degree in business administration, management, public health or health policy) and two (2) years of qualifying professional experience in positions associated with the interpretation and application of policy or executing procedural provisions and/or eligibility within a health, healthcare, or health insurance setting.

Substitution of experience for education:

  • Experience equivalent to four (4) or more years of qualifying professional experience in positions associated with the interpretation and application of policy or executing procedural provisions and/or eligibility within a health, healthcare, or health insurance setting.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize, assess competing demands, and manage workload to meet specific timeframes and deadlines
  • Ability to work independently while also working as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • High attention to detail in written documents
  • Advanced writing and communication skills
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment
  • Strong work ethic, with an ability to receive and implement constructive feedback
  • Willingness to support and foster the team's culture
