The Director of Risk Management is responsible for enterprise-wide mitigation of loss. The DRM will supervise the investigation of all patient harm events, will coordinate RCA process and assignment of related corrective action plans. Conducts literature searches to identify best practices and comparative benchmarks for hospital operation/quality/safety measures. Risk project manager of the system-wide occurrence reporting and analysis process, and is responsible for patient harm event analysis and development of associated risk! reduction action plans for unexpected adverse patient-related! events.

Education:
Required: Undergraduate or graduate degree in healthcare or risk/insurance-related field
Preferred: Graduate from an accredited school of law.

Experience:Required:
At least five years of risk management experience in and/or for an acute care facility.
Proficient in computer and Internet skills, specifically MS Office Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.

Preferred:
At least three years of insurance defense litigation experience (medical malpractice desired); conflict management training and experience; RL Solutions software, commercial insurance and quality/process improvement experience.

Position Requirement(s): License/Certification/Registration:
Required: Require one of the following: Registered healthcare professional, risk management certification, experience in RCA facilitation, quality process improvement program design or implementation. Med! iation training/certification (exceptions on approval of Chief Legal Officer).

Preferred: Tennessee law license or eligibility for license by comity

Department Position Summary:
Works with managers, directors and executives throughout the organization to address current and potential risk issues. Develops systems and processes for each risk exposure. Functions as the risk project manager of the system-wide incident reporting system. Addresses issues in a manner that maintains the legal privilege and respects the confidentiality of the department.
Coordinates the risk response to all significant events and/or near misses; associated root cause analyses and risk reduction action plans; and timely reporting internally.
Trains and facilitates event outcome disclosure conversations.
Coordinates the timely referral of identified process or staff-related issues to the appropriate administrator(s), and physician-related issues to the ! appropriate Medical Quality Improvement Committees and/or Medical Affai! rs for follow-op action as needed.
Serves as primary facility trainer and consultant to other departments to teach and initiate occurrence-related projects to include root cause analysis (RCA), failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA), and use of other risk reduction tools.
Attends and provides input to the multidisciplinary Occurrence Report Analysis Team, a subgroup of the Patient Safety Steering Committee led by the Clinical Quality Improvement Director, to include report preparation, reporting, and facilitating follow-up actions related to risk management.
Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies, protocols and order sets based on national safety initiatives and best practices.
