ATTORNEY-STAFF Human Resources

The Staff Attorney (Employment/Labor) reports to the Associate Corporate Counsel and provides legal counsel to Baptist Memorial Health Care Corporation and its affiliates by researching and making recommendations based on federal and state statutes and exercising expertise in areas related to employment and labor law. This position is primarily responsible for handling day-to-day human resources issues including, but not limited to, discrimination allegations, EEOC matters, wage and hour issues, advising relati! ve to hiring and firing, United States, Arkansas, Mississippi ! and Tennessee Departments of Labor matters, drug diversions and impaired employees, unionizing efforts, FMLA issues, ADA issues, and any and all other employment and labor law issues confronting a major health care organization. This position will also be responsible for providing routine business contract review and advice on a short turnaround time basis as well as performing other duties as assigned.
Job Responsibilities
Provides legal advice as may be necessary to ensure protection of Baptist’s legal rights and to ensure that overall operations comply with all applicable laws, rules, regulations and advisory opinions;
Researches and prepares recommendations related to a wide array of employment and labor law issues;
Assists in interpreting existing or proposed legislation or regulations affecting Baptist;
Reviews policies and procedures to ensure compliance with state and federal laws, rules, regulations and advisory opinions;
Recommends t! he initiation of legal action or participates in the preparation of Baptist’s defense or prosecution of legal actions;
Drafts, reviews, advises and, if requested, negotiates new and existing agreements for Baptist including such services agreements or leases as may be requested by the Associate Corporate Counsel; and
Performs any other assigned duties.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
Must be able to accurately and successfully manage multiple, critical employment and labor law issues and output multiple time-limited projects;
Must have excellent legal writing skills and be able to quickly and accurately advise Baptist while professionally negotiating with opposing counsel;
Must have a pleasant demeanor and be able to function effectively with other members of the legal team as well as all other employees of a large corporate clientele;
Must have exceptional problem-solving and writing skills;
Must be able ! to consistently meet deadlines while handling multiple complex projects! and impromptu issues;
JD (Juris Doctor) or equivalent degree from an accredited school of law; and
Admitted to Arkansas, Mississippi, or Tennessee Bar.
Preferred/Desired Qualifications
All of the foregoing plus five (5) years experience in a corporate employment and labor law setting and/or law practice working specifically on employment and labor law matters;
Specific employment and labor law experience in the health care setting and
Experience handling commercial transactions and contract negotiations.
