This position is located in Memphis, TN and reports to Senior Counsel,
Litigation.
Purpose:
Provide timely, cost-effective, ! general commercial litigation services
to International Paper.
Key Accountabilities:
- Litigate business, commercial and personal injury disputes in-
o Drafting and filing of pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery,
among other things
o Work appropriate cases in-house without outside counsel
including taking depositions and attending hearings, mediations, and
trials.
o Making appropriate delegations of work to paralegals and
reviewing paralegal work product.
o Handling and assisting outside counsel, where appropriate, in
preparing cases for trial and assisting with trial of matters.
- Select and retain competent, cost-effective outside counsel and
o Requiring litigation plans, budgets and early case assessments
o Reviewing documents prepared by outs! ide counsel
o Guiding litigation strategy
o ! Monitoring performance and results
- Assist Senior Litigation Counsel as second chair attorney for
- Regularly update management regarding significant cases and
accurate reporting through quarterly process.
Scope:
- Manage a large caseload to successful resolution.
- Review the paralegal work product.
- Manage Litigation budget.
- Four to seven years relevant legal experience.
- General commercial litigation experience required, including
pleadings, motions and discovery and preparing cases for trial.
- Trial experience.
- Must have demonstrated ability to handle a heavy caseload.
- Must have ability to solve! complex legal issues and apply broad
- Must have current awareness of developments in law. Must

- Must have capacity to consult with and manage outside counsel.
- Must be able to work effectively with others and across
