This position reports to the General Counsel (or his or her designee), and is responsible for handling legal matters assigned by the General Counsel from time-to-time including, without limitation, healthcare operational and regulatory matters, corporate, employment, litigation, quality of care matters, governance and board-related matters, physician and business arrangements, environmental matters, and transactional matters such as mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and syndications.

While it is anticipated that the successful candidate will be assigned a number of hospitals for which she or he will be responsible on a daily basis, depending on experience, it is also possible that the successful candidate might manage litigation matters and other departmental personnel, among other responsibilities.

General Responsibilities: The Associate General Counsel is responsible fo! r creating, maintaining, and improving processes related to pr! ograms managed by the Legal Department (such as Legal and certain Company-wide policies and procedures), and for the most important initiatives of the Legal Department and/or Company, among other responsibilities assigned from time-to-time by the General Counsel.
This position requires the Associate General Counsel to interact with all lawyers within the Legal Department. In addition, the Associate General Counsel acts as critical liaison between the Legal Department, other departments at our Hospital Service Center (corporate office), and Hospital Group Leadership. The Associate General Counsel will also interact regularly with LifePoint's executive officers including its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, its President and its Chief Financial Officer.

General Responsibilities:
To ensure awareness of and compliance with all applicable laws and company policies and procedures
To directly provide legal advice and support to multiple hospitals t! hroughout the United States and to various departments within the corporate headquarters.
To supervise and direct outside counsel retained on behalf of the company or one or more of its subsidiaries or affiliates
To supervise or coach paralegals and less experienced lawyers in the Legal Department, and to oversee administrative staff, in each case subject to the direction of the General Counsel
To fulfill duties and responsibilities assigned or delegated from time-to-time by the General Counsel

Minimum Qualifications:
Must possess and demonstrate the highest level of personal integrity and professional judgment, and must be able to work in a collaborative, collegial and respectful manner
Position requires extensive, self-initiated client contact, and an ability to provide both senior management and operating personnel with sound and practical legal advice
The ability to handle successfully complex and multiple legal projects
Excel! lent interpersonal and writing skills, experience in drafting and negot! iating agreements, strong problem solving capabilities, and a clear understanding of the lawyer's role as a legal and business advisor
The ability to consistently meet deadlines while handling multiple complex projects
A thorough understanding of one or more relevant areas of law applicable to the business including, without limitation, healthcare operational and regulatory law, corporate and transactional law, and labor and employment law
Must have a J.D. from an accredited law school, and be licensed to practice in Tennessee
At least twelve (12) years of relevant experience as licensed attorney, provided that lawyers with fewer years of experience are also encouraged to apply and will be considered
