Memphis - Regular Full-time, Paygrade 46 or 47, Salary DOE&Q
Descript! ion: Assistant or Associate General Counsel, depending on qualifications. Primary duties include defending the University and its employees in all phases of employment and other civil litigation (including discovery, motions, trial, and appeal), representing the University in administrative proceedings, and proactively advising administration with respect to employment, student conduct, contracts, and other business matters. The position is part of the Office of the General Counsel, which represents The University of Tennessee System, a statewide system of public higher education. Most work will involve The University of Tennessee Health Science Center, a flagship statewide academic health system with principal offices in Memphis, Tennessee. The position is located in Memphis. Some travel is required. Skills:
Qualifications: J.D. from an accredited law school; Tennessee license or eligibility for Tennessee license; minimum of 5 years of relevant litigation ex! perience, including employment matters, more than 10 years pre! ferred; strong academic record; and strong legal writing and oral communications skills.
